Terlin Construction

Our Team provided full interior design services for the fit up of Terlin Construction’s new 582m2 office space at 1420 Teron Rd., Ottawa, ON. The complete fit-up included the reception area, office, boardroom, kitchen and adjacent millwork shop. We developed a functional, flexible and innovative design concept for the existing one-story building that would enhance and demonstrate Terlin Construction’s business and core value of being an industry leader and innovator. It was important to incorporate Terlin’s branding throughout the design and building, the client is a construction and millwork company which provided a great opportunity to highlight the work that they can create and produce through design elements in the key public areas. Design elements include a large 3D wall mounted logo, unique column design, and decorative wall panels. Because the building was already existing, modifications could only be made to interior, non-structural elements. Along with maintaining the existing building envelope, we also incorporated sustainable design practices as much as possible retaining and reusing many of the interior building components including doors, frames, sidelights, interior partitions, washroom fixtures. The end result was a modern, warm, functional, flexible design which enhanced the company’s profile to their Clients and workspaces for the Terlin Construction team.

Constraints for this project involved the Space Envelope; as it was an existing building, modifications could only be made to interior non-structural elements. The rounded corners and continuous exterior windows limited the flexibility of the partition locations. Another constraint was creating a space to stay within the client’s budget requirements; this was accomplished by keeping as many of the existing enclosed offices and planning new spaces around the existing structure while creating a space layout that worked with the client’s needs, as well as being functional and flexible and incorporating innovative design solutions to demonstrate the client’s capability and company philosophy. Along with maintaining the existing building envelope, we also retained and reused many of the interior building components including doors, frames, sidelights, interior partitions, washroom fixtures and more.
