Principal Architect

Eliseo Temprano is the Principal Architect of PR-TY Architects Inc. and has been practicing architecture in the Ottawa area since 1984.  He oversees the strategic direction of the firm, being active in the initial design stages and monitoring its progress through to completion. His expertise includes feasibility studies, master planning, project management as well as design of institutional, commercial, hospitality, heritage and residential projects.

Some of his early projects include: Rideau Hall and Stornoway Master Plans for the National Capital Commission, the Canal Ritz Restaurant, The Keg Manor. and National Archives Canada theatre renovation and wall assembly rehabilitation. He introduced Canadian wood frame construction to Spain with a large housing development in Villa de la Cañada , Madrid. 

He continues to be actively involved in overseeing the design and implementation of a wide variety of projects. Most recently these include St Anthony’s Coptic Monastery and master plan in Perth and St Joseph’s Coptic Church, Social Hall and classrooms in Navan.

Mr. Temprano has also been actively involved in International, National, Provincial and Local Architectural Associations in a leadership capacity.  He was president of the Ottawa regional Society of Architects (ORSA). He was past president of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC). Mr Temprano is a past member of the Colegio de Arquitectos de Madrid and the Colegio de Arquitectos de las Canarias. (Canary Islands).  He is an Honorary American Institute of Architects (AIA) member and an Honorary member of the Society of Mexican Architects. He played a key role as the tri-national co-ordinator for the architectural profession during the original NAFTA negotiations with Mexico and the USA and for his efforts received the Honorary Plaque awarded by the Federation of Architectural Associations of the Republic of Mexico (FCARM) in recognition of his significant contributions to the architectural profession. He also received numerous other recognitions throughout Mexico from State Architectural Associations. He has also been internationally recognized by being inducted into the ‘Enxebre Orden Da Veira’ due to his efforts in preserving and promoting the spirit of Galician culture, heritage and values. He was the recipient of the Order of Francisco Miranda (Second class) awarded by the President of Venezuela in recognition of meritorious service. In 1992 he received the Commemorative medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada awarded by the Canadian Government in recognition of the significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada.

His professional career has taken him across continents, having worked as an exchange architect in Tokyo Japan for SHIMIZU Corporation (the worlds largest construction firm) as well as joint ventured with local architect in Madrid Spain introducing Canadian wood-housing technology to Europe. 

Fluently bilingual with excellent writing and oral abilities in both English and Spanish. good knowledge of French and some knowledge of Portuguese and Japanese.

Graduated with a M.Arch from the University of Manitoba in 1979 and a Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) from Carleton University in 1975. He is member of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) since 1984 and became a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (FRAIC) in 1994.
